This 5 hour coaching program gives teachers a chance to explore their teaching strengths. Coaching sessions are 1:1 and combine Gallup’s Clifton Strengths for Students with mindfulness, narrative and metacognitive practice.
Program Name: Strengths Coaching – A Mindful, Strengths based Narrative for the classroom
The role of a teacher is becoming increasingly complex. There are more demands on time and fewer resources. Many are overwhelmed. By the end of term, you may feel stressed and tired. While this may be attributed to curriculum requirements, the drive to produce outstanding results and being responsible for student wellbeing, it may also be a result of how time is managed and responsibilities approached. Strengths coaching does not assume people are broken or need fixing. Rather it highlights potential and builds upon what is already present within a person and helps them, make it better. When you understand your strengths you’ll feel more in control of your environment and better able to manage the challenges of being a teacher in todays world.
Program Objectives
- Use your top 5 talents to establish and implement positive classroom practices that engage and support all student (relates to Australian Professional Standard for Teachers 4.1.2)
- Establish regular routines and strategies to create Strengths based learning practices that focus on student learning (relates to Australian Professional Standard for Teachers 4.2.2)
- Understand how Talent needs and contributions as well as strengths overuse, underuse, misuse and misunderstanding, affects teaching and learning performance. Use this knowledge and understanding to improve professional practice (relates to Australian Professional Standard for Teachers 6.2.2)
Program Summary
This coaching course offers vocabulary, tools and strategies to support strengths based teaching and learning. It is a 4 session coaching course conducted in single sessions to a total of 5 hours. Sessions occur over a minimum of 4, maximum of 6 weeks. During this time you’ll learn how to use your talents to better understand yourself, your classroom approach and your interactions with students and colleagues. You’ll discover more about motivations, needs and contributions while recognising the impact of self talk and internal stories. Coaching sessions are outcomes focussed and practical. You’ll develop your own strength based routines to strengthen communication, relationships and teaching practice.
Strengths Coaching – A Mindful, Strengths based Narrative for the classroom is offered one to one and may occur face-to-face or on-line, depending on location.
Program Sessions
Session 1: Strengths Review: Recognising, Appreciating and Your Applying Talents in the Classroom
Timing: 90 mins face-to-face + 10 mins home study
Outcome: Use your top 5 talents to establish and implement positive classroom practices that engage and support all students.
Session 2 Theme Dynamics – Using your theme Descriptions in the classroom
Timing: 60 mins face-to-face + 10 mins home study
Outcome: Establish regular routines and strategies to create Strengths based learning practices that focus on student learning.
Session 3: Needs, Contributions, Barrier Labels and Blind Spots in the classroom
Timing: 60 mins face-to-face
Outcome: Understand how Talent needs and contributions, as well as strengths overuse, underuse, misuse and misunderstanding, affects teaching and learning performance. You’ll use this knowledge and understanding to improve you professional practice.
Session 4: Recognising and Managing Toxic Triggers in the classroom
Timing: 70 mins face-to-face
Outcome: Use your top 5 talents to establish and implement positive classroom practices that engage and support all students.
Establish regular routines and strategies to create Strengths based learning practices that focus on student learning.
